Cipher Zero · Player guide

One good question brings you closer.

Ask, deduce, and guess. Here’s what you need to know for your first round.

Play Cipher Zero ↗

Your first round, in four steps

  1. Choose a familiar topic

Pick a deck and a mode. Each round has 48 candidate cards and one hidden answer. If you don’t know the topic, start with something more familiar.

  2. Ask a clear, specific question

Ask about a feature, such as “Does it usually need electricity?” or “Is it mainly used for cutting?”. Ask one yes-or-no question at a time, avoid vague comparisons, and don’t ask about spelling, letters, or name length.

  3. Use the answer to narrow the field

Work out which cards still fit. We recommend tapping cards to cross off excluded options; tap again to restore them. This is only a memory aid—you can keep asking and guessing without marking any cards.

  4. Make a guess when you’re ready

Choose Guess, select a card, and confirm. Questions and wrong guesses are limited, so check the counters for your current mode. The evidence log keeps earlier questions and answers.

Common questions

Is it free to play?

Yes. Play for free in a mobile or desktop browser, with no download required. You will need an internet connection.

What does “Depends” mean?

Some features depend on the situation and cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. Try a more specific question. “Depends” is a valid answer and uses a question or turn; network or verification failures instead prompt you to retry.

How do I play with friends?

Open the multiplayer lobby, create a table, and send the invite link. The host can make the room public or private and add a password. Start when everyone is ready; ongoing games also welcome spectators and chat.

What if I don’t recognize a card?

Use the field guide to read its description. In solo mode it is unlimited but affects your rank; expedition and multiplayer require the corresponding item or Focus.

Which languages can I use?

The game supports English and Chinese. Switch using the header control. Players at the same table can each use their preferred interface language.
